JOHANNESBURG – Eskom’s board has been accused by its own spokesperson of failing to act decisively against compromised senior executives and burying its head in the sand at the expense of the utility and the nation.

Eyewitness News can exclusively reveal that an internal report compiled by Khulani Qoma warns Eskom that it oozes corporate arrogance and urges the power giant to keep the likes of Brian Molefe and Matshela Koko far away from it.

EWN understands that after the document was submitted, the board tried and failed to dismiss Qoma.

He submitted the strongly worded report to the board in June saying Eskom had failed to credibly debunk serious allegations related to state capture and that the board was perceived to be exuding the worst levels of malfeasance and venality.

He went so far as to say the board has convincingly told South Africans they are working hard to destroy the nation’s future by capturing Eskom on behalf of the Gupta family.

Qoma says the parastatal is mainly to blame for what he terms its atrocious relationship with National Treasury and takes aim at Koko for lying about the Gupta-linked Tegeta deal.

He also believes that individuals including Koko, suspended CFO Anoj Singh and ex-CEO Molefe are irretrievably tainted, and should be kept at arm’s length.

Qoma expresses concern that the board is either impervious or too scared to take action to rescue Eskom and prevent more immeasurable damage.

EWN has learnt that since this report was submitted there have been attempts to fire Qoma, but acting chair Zethembe Khoza says no “issues” have been instituted against him and that this document was merely was a “cautionary statement” that has been noted.

Qoma suggests that decisive action will usher in a new dawn for Eskom and allow it to clean away any rot, perceived or real.

The board says it has noted the report and is still observing all the dynamics that are taking place.
