Jacob Zuma rakes in an ice-cool R2.9m a year from his presidential duties, with only five other world leaders making more than he does.

Here are some numbers for you: In possession of 784 criminal charges laid against him, as well as being the veteran of seven no-confidence votes and two recessions, he is the 6th highest paid leader in the world. That’s fair, isn’t it?

His wage could have been even higher but for a freeze on his yearly 5% rise.

Those of you expecting to see Donald Trump or Angela Merkel at the top of the tree, you’ll be very surprised. They are ranked 3rd and 5th respectively on the pay scale.

No, looking down on all of us and laughing in his solid gold robe (probably) is Singapore’s Lee Hsien Loong, who makes an eye-watering R21 million annually from running the South-East Asian country.

Malcolm Turnbull of Australia completes the top five, with a King’s ransom of R5.4 million a year.

Surprisingly, the leaders of global superpowers China and India make a very modest wage: Xi Jinping makes just R294,000 a year and Narendra Modi is only mildly better off on R405,000.
