Liberal South Africans and Cognitive Dissonance

Prior to South Africa’s first democratic election in 1994, the country was on tenterhooks not knowing what was going to happen. The now defunct AWB (White right) were foaming at the mouth ready for war when they weren’t  too busy falling off horses. Political violence was at an all-time high since Mandela’s release as the ANC and the IFP jostled for political position, both trying to ensure that they would be the majority black power in the new South Africa. This was a violent time in South African history and dwarfs anything the “evil apartheid” government had ever done or had ever planned to do to its own citizens. Winnie Mandela’s necklaces were all the rage and burnt black bodies could be found littering townships from KZN to Transvaal.

Then we had the 1994 elections and it was everything the liberals had wished for. It was as if all the Christmases had come at once and Mandela was Santa Claus dishing out democracy to all those cute black faces you would normally see on your television (minus the flies and fat bellies). The Rainbow Nation was finally here and Mandela shirts had replaced Mandela’s necklaces, and whether the shirts are any better than the necklaces is up for debate, although I have seen Helen Zille (Premier of the Western Cape, center of featured image) wearing one of the shirts and I would love to get her a matching necklace to complete her ensemble.

1994 rolled into 1995 and South Africa was going to host the Rugby World Cup. The majority of White South Africans are addicted to rugby; this is not a secret and this love of Rugby combined with a big ego were used to further subdue the white masses.

South Africa made it into the final and were scheduled to face the New Zealand All Blacks, when something interesting happened; the All Blacks fell ill due to ‘food poisoning’. It’s interesting to note that the ANC government at the time (technically a government of national unity) had people who were trained in the very thing that happened to the All Blacks Rugby team, but this is obviously a pure coincidence and tinfoil hat territory to think a country with a new elected black (communist) government would poison another team so the local (majority white) team would win and the white population would be more open and accepting of the new government. Communists poisoning 30 people as a means to an end is not really a big deal and a small price to pay for the government to exert some kind of a strange stranglehold on the white psyche.

South Africa won the ’95 Rugby World Cup, Mandela donned the springbok rugby jersey and handed over the trophy to Francois Pienaar. This whole scene and the surrounding politics of the time is played out in the movie Invictus. I refer to this point in history as White South Africa’s heroin moment.

Overlay the image of Mandela lifting the Rugby World Cup to that of a needle breaking the skin on a junkies arm; the plunger is depressed and the euphoric yet toxic substance enters the bloodstream and flows to the brain, binding to the opioid receptors and flooding the body with massive amounts of dopamine.

From that point on, it’s as if the past did not happen and White South Africa relaxed. They released the tourniquet of “die swaart gevaar” (the black danger) and let the ANC rush into White South Africa unopposed, both physically and within their collective unconscious.

The Rugby World Cup win turned Mandela from “a terrorist” to “he is not so bad, he likes Rugby”; the narrative towards the ANC and Mandela shifted, people on the fence about ANC rule were now quite happy with it, and those that were slightly opposed to it were now on the fence. Most right-leaning white South Africans have not changed their feelings about Mandela, the ANC or De Klerk.

Liberal Theory of Sainthood – “Terrorist + RWC = Saint Nelson”

The Roman satirical poet Juvenal called this “panem et circenses” (bread and circuses), which is metonymic for a superficial means of appeasement. In the case of politics, the phrase is used to describe the generation of public approval, not through exemplary or excellent public service or public policy, but through diversion, distraction, or the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements of a populace as an offered “palliative.”

Poor MaxThere is a meme on the internet that perfectly sums up the modern South African liberal: “his smile and optimism: gone”. Even white ‘apartheid activists’ are scratching their heads and doing Olympic medal performances in mental gymnastics to explain away the current debacle we are seeing unfold in this country.

‘Racism’ and ‘White Privilege’ is banded about, but these excuses are becoming a bit warn, and not even liberals are believing them anymore. 21 years of ANC mismanagement and excuses has definitely wiped the smile and removed the optimism of liberal South Africans (those that have not yet left SA).

The excuses, even though worn and tired, are really starting to come in thick and fast, but again white liberals don’t place the blame at the feet of the ANC government for their complete mismanagement of the country. They still blame ‘white South Africa’, they still blame themselves and they still blame those ‘racist right wingers’. We are told daily we need to do more to understand the plight of the black in South Africa. We are force fed constant propaganda in South African MSM about how evil whites are, that Africa as a continent was rather peaceful, that the tribes used to live in harmony and rode unicorns prior to evil whitey landing here with his written language, education, farming methods and medicine.

White liberals, like liberals in any other Western country, are conditioned not to see race, apart from the white race. They are conditioned to treat everyone as equal, apart from whites who must now bear what has become ‘the original sin’ in South Africa, apartheid.

The most hilarious part about all this is that white liberals in South Africa now fold their arms, stomp their feet like petulant children and mouth something to the effects of “This is not what Madiba would have wanted” (Madiba is Mandela’s pet name) or something to do with “the rainbow nation.”

"SA Liberals Wet Dream"
SA Liberal’s wet dream – DA’s Mmusi Maimane

I don’t hold out any hope for liberals in this country. Even though the narrative is starting to swing back towards the right, they don’t seem to grasp the real problem, which is not really the ANC, but black incompetence. This is highlighted in the fact they were only too happy for the Democratic Alliance (DA) to have “a black leader”. A black leader who supports Affirmative Action (AA) and Broad Based Economic Empowerment (BEE) race based laws disqualifying whites from equal opportunities in the workplace. A black leader who had his ‘feelings hurt’ by a white lady that he called a press conference so the media could give him a hug. The same black leader who tweets about how he doesn’t like to see white people shopping and black people working in shops.

If White South Africa is thinking that voting for the DA will solve the issues they currently face with the ANC government, they are very wrong indeed.

The middle aged white liberals of the DA are so focused on signaling, so happy they have an intelligent black guy with a white wife and 2 kids, the ultimate Cape Town wet dream, that they don’t have a clue about DA policy. I would suggest they spend less time on the Super Rugby and soapies and more time on matters that directly influence them.
