President Jacob Zuma has asked to be given more time to respond to a complaint of hate speech that the Freedom Front Plus laid with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) against him.

The FF Plus said it was compelled to lay the complaint because it felt the remarks attributed to Zuma constituted a form of hate speech.

Zuma had until Monday to respond to the complaint.

Gail Smith of the SAHRC on Monday said: “The Presidency‚ on Friday‚ requested an extension until end July to respond to the complaint. The request was granted and the complainants were also notified.”
